
The coffee shops here are all in a similar vein - proper coffee, 'panninis' instead of your average sandwich, usually a belt-stretching selection of fabulous cakes and an atmosphere to hang out in.
Although Cardiff has its fair share of big chain cafes, it also has a number of small independant coffee shops tucked away from the city centre. During the summer months they seem to compete for the title of best fruit smoothie.
Coffee #1, Albany Rd, Roath - comfy chairs and sofas, good coffee and a wide range of cold drinks. There is another branch by Cardiff Central train station.
AJ's Coffee Shop, City Road, Roath - great food, good coffee, cool tunes and very friendly staff.
Café Brava, Pontcanna St, Pontcanna - (pictured above) upmarket coffee shop which often displays local artwork.
Crumbs, Morgan Arcade, City Centre - although most places mentioned do a fine vegetarian dish, this cafe is exclusively veggie.
Shot in the Dark, City Road, Roath - organic and fair trade coffee, relaxed atmosphere, good veggie options, raved about by all that have drunk or worked there. Prices have suffered an unfortunate hike though.
Garlands Coffee Shop, Duke St., City Centre - have a selection of speciality coffees and teas.
Café Mao, Whitchurch Road, Cathays, - smoke free Mediterranean café.
Chapter Arts Centre, Market Road, Canton - fine coffee, food and a comfortably arty atmosphere.
Café Europa, Castle St., City Centre - enormous cups of hot chocolate with tiny, tiny marshmallows, rumoured to be closing down so enjoy it while it lasts.
New York Deli, High Street Arcade, City Centre - all variations of sandwiches, baguettes and bagels, some items on the menu are imported from the US for a truely authentic experience. Mobile phone free zone.
